Time out!

OK. I thought I was going to be able to do it but it is just too difficult for me to blog here. The main thing is it is hard for me to adjust the photos rather than simply fixing them on my computer. So...I am going to be taking a break from the posts. This does not mean I am breaking from my daily pictures that I am taking with my iPhone. It just means that the "April 27th" post will come a little later than usual. As well as all of the posts after that. I suppose when I get back home I will have a gigantic list of things to say. Until then, read back on my previous posts and check back on me later...I'm anxious to talk about my trip!

April 26, 2012

Not the typical photo of Maui. Today we spent a lot of time on the beach doing basically nothing. I snorkeled a bit while my wife sat and got some sun. Simple enough for the start of a vacation day.

April 25, 2012

First, this iPad thing is difficult to get used to. I accidentally deleted my April 24th post and since that post is saved on my computer at home...yeah. So, this was the view that I had for the majority of the day. It was a loooong flight that actually was not too bad as far as annoyances are concerned. Hopefully I can get used to using the iPad. So far I am deleting old posts and the new ones are short and meaningless. I am on vacation!

Torta

Yet another food photo.  This is a Mexican torta.  No real pleasure in this presentation and this particular sandwich was difficult to eat…but it was delicious.

Jasminesuckle

The finicky winds and the act of crop dusting pollen in to my nostrils can be a trying gift that Spring provides me.  Spring does give some nice sights and smells though.  In this case we have the Jasmine plant flower.  I originally thought it was honeysuckle since the flowers smell very similar…but this flower lacks the little dingle dangle that one can pull out to get nectar.  The entry way wall to my front door is covered with the jasmine thanks to my neighbor's wild growing effort.  Not that I care, it is actually a joy when the rare occasion presents itself for me to actually use my front door.

Bananananannannana

I eat a lot of bananas.  I was walking around the grocery store and saw the bananas sitting all peaceful like.  So I decided that it would be a perfect picture opportunity.

Minecraft

Oh Minecraft.  I spent a large majority of my day building a house and harvesting pumpkins for no reason. This game is a great boredom eraser.  I should be packing for the trip but that can wait.  I can do like my wife does and make a "master packing list" list.  Just to say I did something.

My wife is a list aficionado.  Trips, parties, things to do around the house, and little things to do for herself.  There are lists on lists…and when those lists are no longer list worthy she makes another one to compensate.  In fact, she made me a list that I need to get to...after I build this house though.

Smithcenter

Today we made our culture outing for the week to Las Vegas' new Smith Center.  This photo was taken outside the entrance to Reynolds Hall.  Needless to say, I am very proud of Las Vegas.  It is nice to say we actually have a venue to showcase amazing shows…that are not on the Strip.  The show we saw (Momix's Botanica) was interesting and weird.  The video almost puts me into an epileptic fit, imagine what it was like live.  I did enjoy the show though.  In hindsight I think it was part of the celebrations for 4/20

Kelleye

It was difficult to get this photo.  My subject (wife) moved around, blinked, and laughed the whole time while I was slowly adjusting to her movement.  I noticed that this is also the first photo I have where the subject is human.

It reminds me of another one of my wife's tattoos.  It is definite, there will be a post that reminds me of all of my wife's tattoos by the end of this.

April 18, 2012

I am turning over a new leaf. This is somewhat of a test post to see if the 'ol iPad works with the blogging. I want to prepare myself before I head out for my vacation so that I can post some things while I am away. I also got a new toy for my iPhone to help with my project. Needless to say I am ready to go.

Rearview

It would be nice to see an image like this more often.  When I look in the rearview mirror of my car I usually see a tailgating jack ass in it or a long stream of vehicles behind me...an indication of the stupidity of the civil planner's street layout.  Then again, I am taking a picture of my rearview mirror while in my car, so I could be the cause of some traffic…horns be damned!

Batts

Energizer, Energizer, could you plug into me?  Perhaps I can gain some of your energy?

My mind runs sluggish. My thoughts in the air.  Perhaps it is easier to set fire to my hair?

This rhyme is a joke, at least it is done, next week I will be drinking and soaking in the sun.

Candy

Taxes get paid and health insurance cost rise.  Tasty rise though.

Rocks

I love rocks about as much as my tree fascination.  I remember getting the rocks and minerals book when I was about eight years old.  When I went on my adventures I would look for exciting rocks and compare them to the book's illustrations.  I had a rock hammer that I would carry around at the ready like a miniature Geologist.  It became easier for me to find fossils and interesting rocks that hid on the desert floor.  I have slowed down the rock collecting due to limited space and instead opt to buy interesting rocks at a store when I am inclined to get a new one.

Fridge

This is perhaps the most important appliance in my house.  In fact, I'm going to give it a name…Norm.  I use this chest freezer to control the temperature of my beer and mead during fermentation.  There is a temperature control device that I plug the freezer in to so that I can get to the temperature that I am targeting.  I've also seemed to have acquired my wife's affinity for sticking shit on shit.

Tonight was filled with going to a Grace Potter and the Nocturnals concert.  Unfortunately the venue was on the complete opposite side of the valley, which already put a sour taste in our mouths.  The place was not really friendly toward people standing and actually dancing either. There were chairs in the middle of the main floor to prevent that.  My wife has a rating system in which she uses, "glitters" from 1-5.  She gave the venue 2 glitters.  The concert was good though.

Backyard

This photo of my backyard encompasses a fair share of posts that I have completed within a month.  Only 11 more to go!  In this month I have come to realize it is somewhat difficult to photograph something with an iPhone.  I wake up and I immediately think about what I am going to use as a photo for the day.  When I am at work it is particularly difficult to find something that is iPhoneogenic.  I try to remain somewhat inconspicuous when I am in public using my camera.  But, I imagine I look like a douche to others when I focus on taking a picture of my photographic object.  I move the object around and try to get a good angle, which sometimes involves me awkwardly pointing the camera toward my focus to avoid suspicious stares.  I suspect by the end of this (challenge?) I will not care and point my iPhone camera to whatever the hell I want to capture.

Las vegas

Rich guys and their fascination for all things phallic.  The Stratosphere looks so small from Downtown.  I like how enhancing the photo with an HDR filter brings out the true ugliness of Vegas.  The clouds are pretty though.

April 10, 2012

Sprite

The simple beauty of junk that is strewn about a street.  It reminds me of a a movie I saw recently, Wasteland.  The movie tells the story of an artist who goes to his home country of Brazil and makes art out of the trash from a dump.  He uses the assistance of the "pickers" who collect recyclable material out of the dump to help make his works.  It is currently on Netflix and I highly recommend it.

I keep posting about art and things.  It is just so easy to talk about art when my little project concentrates on photos.  I will focus on something else...I swear.

April 9, 2012

Powerbox1

A little bit of joy to add to a utility box.  I enjoy urban art when it is done correctly.  Urban art is not graffiti in the sense that most people see it; the limp dick wannabes placing their name to mark their territory.  Urban art is striking.  Even mere words spray painted on a wall in block letters, such as Banksy's messages, can cause visual excitement.  Unfortunately, urban art is connected to vandalism in most cases.  The vandalism is often part of the message of whatever it is the artist is presenting.

However, there are some places that have, "approved" graffiti.  Where establishments and government entities allow someone to do their thing on their things.  Such is the case here.

April 8, 2012

Flowers

I was walking around while working and took time to gaze at the flowers.  I did not want to sniff them…allergies and all. I have attempted to grow something as a result of my doing ever since I got my own place.  My success rate is nothing to be proud of.  The only thing I seem to be able to keep alive is an aloe vera plant which I am pretty sure can survive the apocalypse.

April 7, 2012

Birdhouse

I have yet to see a bird use a house like this.  I have seen bees and wasps use them as stopping points between their nests and nectar.  It's just decorative art work to accentuate the tree with assumed functionality.  Some houses even have balconies and fences.  I wish the people that built track homes put as much effort into their houses as the folks that build bird houses do.

April 6, 2012

Avocado

A cut in half avocado sitting on a counter.  Simplicity at its finest.  Despite its visual similarity to testicles, I have an avocado a week. There are worse things I could be eating once a week, so I will stick to eating my testicle shape fruit.

Bathroompic

Settebello again.  OK, so we go there a lot; the atmosphere is nice. This was captured in the men's bathroom…a precarious spot to be randomly taking a photo, for many reasons other than dropping the phone in the toilet.  I feel I must add that the bathroom is a single…I imagine there would be awkward glances and accusations as to my intentions if it were an open public restroom, I am not running for senate.

So, I must confess.  I have been keeping these posts a secret from my wife.  I decided to tell her today and that went over like a lead balloon.  All is well though.  And I'm sure she'll be my #1 fan of my witty anecdotes and philosophies on life.

April 4, 2012

Osiris

This is Osiris.  I use a statuette of him to help facilitate my brewing process.  My belief is that if I place the statue near my beer and mead during the fermentation process the alcohol will come out tasty.  So, yeah, I make beer and mead; I am surprised I haven't included a photo of that part of my life yet.  Anyway, Osiris is the Egyptian god of the underworld and afterlife.  In Egyptian times, beer seemed to magically spring up from barley sitting in a jar filled with rain water.  To Egyptians, this was god like.  So, the thought was that Osiris was gifting them with beer.  As such, Osiris became an Egyptian god of beer…among all his other god duties.

April 3, 2012

Wholefoods

Despite the bright god like shine that embraces the building…this place is the devil's house.  I have no idea why I make a trip at least once a week to grab some odd supposedly "organic" items.  I buy the vitamins that I take from Whole Foods.  Oh, and when I buy three items it costs almost $50.  That's why people call it Whole Paycheck. Yay for supporting the economy.

Landmark

The Landmark sign is roughly near where the old building stood.  I remember the space age building growing up and its demise.  It was one of the first implosions I remember in Vegas' age of blowing shit up and putting something new up.  In the Landmark's case the "something new" put up was a parking lot.

April 2, 2012

Sky

I was sitting at work going through the normal human emotion of not wanting to be there.  I then looked up at the sky.  "That would be my picture for today," I thought.  There really is nothing spectacular about the Las Vegas sky.  Particularly around the cool winter months when the smog and dust blankets the ground. That was just where my eyes were pointed for the majority of the day.  Lost in thought, mostly about vacation.  My wife and I will be leaving for Maui in a few weeks.  Perhaps I could obtain a better sky picture there?

April 1, 2012

Spring

A new month; I have at least come that far.  Spring has started its indecisive and ephemeral dance before the blaze of summer engulfs us.  The winds blow and wane like a finicky toddler not getting its way.  This causes the pollen (plant sperm) to spray about the valley leaving everyone sneezing and with red eyes.  I try to remedy this by adding local bee pollen to my tea and coffee.  It seems to work a little.  Spring here just ticks me off.  It's enjoyable for about a second then either flips to some chilly night or blazing hot wind that takes the "fun" out of springtime.

Tort

I think there is going to be a photo of everything in my backyard by the time I am done with this.  These are our stone tortoises.  Not drugged stoned; they're not high as a result of ant poison…I mean they are made of rock and cement.  We were always thinking about getting a tortoise.  We still might at some point.  Adoption seems easy enough and the backyard still provides enough areas for the little guy to explore.
